How do I tell if my shocks are bad?

I replaced the stock shocks on my car with Eibachs at about 40K. The car now has 75,500 and the rear shocks are definitely not damping correctly (the rear of the car feels unsettled). I know this is a common problem and I will have it fixed (hopefully under Eibach's million mile warranty) shortly. How would one tell if the front shocks had gone bad? The car just doesn't feel anywhere near as tight as it used to, under any circumstances. Thanks for your help.
