Hi Everyone -- I'm usually on the 9000 board (91 9KT). A friend gave me his 99 9-5, 167K. He's owned it since new and has all work done at the dealer. The oil light came on, no funny noises, he had it towed in, the dealer tested the pressure and it was low, did a chemical clean out, cleaned the pan, pressure relief spring and pick-up screen and the pressure was back -- for about 10 minutes, then it dropped. The dealer called Saab, their tech said it sounds like cam bearings. Saab is denying a new engine based on oil changes being too far apart. It's now in my garage (towed here) and am trying to figure out the first few steps. I've done a lot of work on my 91 so I'm capable of it but don't want a wild goose chase. I thinking about pulling the valve cover, check those bearings, pull the pan and also replace the oil pump. Are there actually cam bearings or is it journaled between the head and the bearing caps?
Any thoughts out there? Thanks!
