took far too long to locate it, but whilst
contemplating the possible causes of the knocking
they suggested the following:
1. Dealer's first suggestion: 'a possible loose steering/
suspension mounting bolt'! Dealer twice had the car in
to retorque all bolts/check bushes/bearings/joints etc.
They confirmed all okay on both occasions, even though
this was eventually diagnosed as the cause on my 5th visit
re this problem!
2. Dealer's second suggestion: drive shaft splines
possibly dry, and hence 'clicking' where they locate
into the main hub. Dealer attempted to cure the knocking
by removing the wheel and regreasing the splines.
3. Third suggestion: brake calipers loose/pads sticking
causing braking mechanism to move. Dealer torqued up the
caliper mounting bolts... suggested possibly changing
the pads as a last resport.
4. Dealer's final suggestion after all else had failed
to locate the cause of the knocking (this was by then
a loud metallic clunking), the service manager suggested
probable cause of knocking to be the little chromed
dust cover that covers the locking wheel bolt!!! He even
went so far as to remove it to convince himself that
wasn't the cause!!
As you can see my dealer is not particularly bright by
any means, so I don't know how helpful any the above will be.
I'm sure some of the regulars here will have some more ideas.
Good luck!
