Fragile fog light lens ? You bet... Posted by magalar [Email] (#1325) [Profile/Gallery] (more from magalar) on Wed, 11 May 2005 09:18:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When one of my fog light lens cracked for no reason, I went the Lexan route and created 2 flat clear new lenses. Looks is OK, lighting is the same as with the correct ribbed glass lenses. Here in CDN, each fog is 211$.
For uniformity, I managed to remove the uncracked lens from the good fog light without cracking it at all. The lens was very lightly pitted, but reusable if I ever want it later.
I wrapped the lens in bubble wrap, put it on a shelf, and forgot about it.
Anyway, yesterday, I've looked at it: it is cracked!!! A nice crack, in the middle, even if the lens was still in the bubble wrap!
So this might add to the theory of the "unexplainable lens explosion without hit" that we often read here.
I guess that's just plain old material aging, and the stresses produced by the tiny pits caused the crack. Oh well, so long for the $$$ I was hoping from a sell on ebay...
