V6 timing tensioner

After my V6 engine was damaged by the tensioner failing, I checked with my brother who owns a garage in the UK where he services various vehicles with the GM/Vauxhall/Opel V6. He has observed that when he replaces the belt at the 60K service there is a big variation in belt tension from the factory. For cars that have the belt tension set correctly he does not change the tensioner or rollers ,they get changed at 120K miles, but for cars that have the tension set on the high side, he replace the tensioner and rollers irrespective of the bearing condition.
So far ( 10 years ) he has not had any customers come back with a blown engine after a cam belt replacement. He sees more damage caused by the aux drive belt shredding and wrapping around the crank pulley damaging the cam belt.
