Brake fluid is hydroscopic..... meaning that it absorbs water, i.e mositure from the air. The water that is absorbed by the brake fluid will lead to a lower boiling point for the brake fluid (possible loss of braking in high heat braking situations , i.e going down long hills) and corrosion of brake components (including brake calipers and the very expensive ABS pump). This is why Saab recommends changing the brake fluid every 30,000 miles. Perhaps Saab's recommendation is overly cautious and perhaps the brake fluid may be fine for 60,000+ miles, but eventually the mositure in the brake fluid WILL cause a brake system failure.
