- If I want to use the Nokia mic and speaker for all cell calls (and not the car speakers), do I still need to install a Triad?
I guess you don't really "need" the Traid at that point. The question comes down to radio muting...
-If I go this route, will I need the Saab cell accessory wiring harness?
No. There is no place to plug it in on a 01 vehicle.
-Also, will I be able to have the phone automatically turn off the radio when an incoming call rings?
Not easily. To do this you would need either a Triad, or some other means of giving the audio mute signal to the radio, yet not confusing/grounding the onstar mute signal.
- If I use the Triad it seems I can use the Nokia mic (which, based on other posts, seems to provide better quality)
I _had_ to use the Nokia mic in my Onstar install w/Triad in order to get acceptable performance when using Onstar. When I used the saab mic the people I called via cell phone heard me fine, but Onstar operators said my voice was difficult to hear. Others seem to be able to use the Saab mic without issue.
- do I need to worry about the noise filter?
I needed to use the Noise filter. If your car is a "noisy" one. Apparently it varies from car to car... The noise will only be presant when using onstar. Some people do not need the filter, my install required it to attenuate the noise to a level that I could use Onstar.
-As I've had this phone (and car kit) in my '95 900S for a number of years (since the phone was released) I'm not unhappy with the
included Nokia speaker and mic system. I'm not sure it's worth another $145 in parts plus a couple hours of installation fees (I know
my limitations...). Comments?
I thought it was worth it, but that is a personal choice.
