Track Days - do it! Posted by Peter [Email] (#2804) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Peter) on Sat, 8 Sep 2001 19:19:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey all - I just spent the day at Road Atlanta in one of their Track Days. Great experience! The Viggen Flight Academy was on the infield practicing defensive driving, the rest of us were lapping the 2.54 mile road course. First, more Saabs need to get out there and do it. There were at least 5 Audi S4's. After that it was a mix: Viper, Ferrari, Porsche, Mustang, 240Z, BMW roadsters, Miatas, even a Q45. But no other Saabs.
My Abbott tuned 9-5 held its own quite well. In one session I was teamed with a Porsche Carerra and a BMW M3 coupe. I kept pretty close overall. They'd get ahead coming out of the turns, but given that they have an additional 100+ hp, I guess that is to be expected. I'd catch up again by the start of the turns and hold ground until we exited. After nearly 100 miles divide among 4 sessions, I was tired and happy.
The 9-5 is a relatively big car, but it handles great (at least when tuned) and is no slouch. Get out there and do it!
