Headlight wiper motor assembly: 2$ motor repair !!! Posted by magalar [Email] (#1325) [Profile/Gallery] (more from magalar) on Thu, 23 Jun 2005 14:41:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, this is one of the least expensive fix on this car!
When one of my headlight wiper motor quit last week, I decided to open it (after searching this forum...) to repair it cheap.
As others said before, this is a little gem of engineering. Inside, you'll find many little gears, two levers, one shaft and a very common-looking motor.
This motor is stamped "BOSCH 1 397 220 056, 3A2903, 12V". My online research found nothing with that number.
However, the motor is supplied to Bosch by Johnson Electrics (a tiny logo is stamped on the casing), where we can find its spec sheet at :http://www.jmotor.com/product_c/product_sheet/images/pdf/BP03005.pdf
If you can find one (Series HC315G, code BP03005), you'll just have to notch the shaft and you'll have an exact copy of the one in the wiper assembly.
However, my electronic supplier here has some very similar looking motor for 2$ each. One is a 18 000 rpm, the other is a 7500 rpm. The only difference is the output shaft: on the Bosch-Johnson, it is on the same side as the connectors. The 7500 rpm generic motors (type RS-365SH) are normally constructed, output on one end, connectors on the other.
My solution was to weld two pieces of wire to the motor's contacts, and run them along toward to the output shaft where I connected them in the stock location. It's that easy.
The result is good. The new motor is a little slower than the other, but makes less noise and is strong enough.
Now I know words are not as good as pictures, so if someone wants to post them, I can take some. Better, if somebody wants to send me a dead unit, I can try to repair it and take pictures of the process.
