Securing full size spare, threaded rod too short

Full size spare fits fine in the wagon. However, even wheel down the securing nut cannot grab any tread on the rod. The spare is so narrow compared to the full size. These are 16x7.5 Ronal R7 wheels. Do I need to bolt the spare in? Sure seems snug, but I guess anything can happen in a crash. Is there some other way to do this or am I missing something?
