Spark plugs come with a compression washer. Gentle screw in the sparkplug (no wrench handle) until you feel resistance. Then, using a wrench handle, turn it another 3/4 turn. Then, STOP! If you use a wrench handle that's 6-8" long you'll feel when the washer is completely compressed.
By the way..... if you remove the sparkplug after the washer has already been compressed.....the above procedure DOES NOT APPLY. Turn the wrench less than 1/4 turn after you make contact.
