To my ear, the CD sound is "brighter." (HK Receiver), probably due to "direct" digital/analog signals vs. broadcast ones. I find the rear speakers very boxy and muffled sounding. It's a shame they seemingly use such cheap speakers there.
I find that the with the loudness on there is too much bass and treble at moderate to "higher" volume levels. It seems better with NO loudness on at these levels. Too bad there's not a button and not a programming routine you have to go through to change the setting. Turning down the treble or bass, doesn't cut it for me.
At normal volume levels, with the loudness setting on, it sounds pretty much OK. But, at low listening levels, the treble boost outshines the bass boost, making the system sound very bass shy.
My thinking is that they need to redesign the loudness contour to work ONLY at lower levels and NOT at higher volume levels.
