Went from my aging '88 9000T to a 2001 Aero last Feb.

I looked a long time on eBay, watched the used cars on Saabnet, kept an eye on the Saab CPO website stuff. The latter is EXTREMELY interesting in terms of what dealers in various parts of the US are asking for CPO cars.

I tried to buy a 2001 Aero that was in Boston (I am in western NY state), very much overpriced at $22,500 asking price, 5-speed, CPO with almost 3 years of warranty left, 29K miles. I also laughed at them when they refused to budge when I attempted to negotiate over the phone.

Four days later their sales manager called back - but by then I had found the Aero I eventually bought. 2001 5-Speed, 27K miles, 2+ years CPO left, 60 miles from my house. I got it for $20K, which included some small stuff that I wanted. The car had brand new tires and BBS wheels, both of which were replaced when they did the CPO. It was also a Md. car, which was important to me - not much road salt down there.

You should have the dealer pull the Saab Iris report for you - shows all warranty work done, regardless of where it was done. The Iris on my Aero showed a couple of headlight bulbs, a DIC and a cat converter, along with all of the oil changes and maintenance. Very clean, IMHO.

The 9-5 Aero is a very different ride from the 9000T. The car is naturally much quieter, so it's not uncommon to be going 'way faster than you think in very little time. The suspension is light years tighter and more stable.
Like all 9-5's, you have to mount real snows tires in the winter (16") if you live where there's "real" snow. I do miss the hatch, but that's what the wife's 9-5 wagon stands in for...
