Dave: I saw it done, and it is not pretty. The only way that you get the orriginal leather shift knob off the lever is to cut it with a hacksaw to split it, then remove the residue of adhesive from the shaft prior to epoxying the new one on. Ask any mechanic at a Saab dealership who has actually done one.
