Hi: I had this happen on a 1995 V6 9000 (GM Engine). I am still debating to fix it or not, given the value of my vehicle, yours is more valuable... I take full responsibly for not getting it changed, but....
1) Replace the engine
2) Replace the Heads
3) Do the head work yourself / local, buy valves, etc.
I did find places that had heads for the 9000 ready to go for about $300-$400 each. I will stll need special tools (4 I think) to time the belt and the heads for the 9000 v6, suspect this is the same for the 9-5 but check out.
If you want to go into more detail on this, please send email to me.
The one thing that I do want to note is how a mfg can make an engine (GM and others) that will kill the engine when a $40 part fails and you have to spend $200-$300 to replace the belt at the dealer.
Personally, I will proably never purchase a Saab with a v6 again.
I do have a few questions, how many miles were on it? Are you the only owner? Was it serviced by a dealer?
