Tips on improving gas mileage are helpful, but my point is that, as a car buyer, I perceived the Saab's mileage to be better than it is. Getting city mileage in the 20's shouldn't really come down to whether I'm braking efficiently or using Sport mode. I wanted to be getting better mileage under realistic driving conditions. Someone on the board once brought up the idea of turning off the turbo entirely--I mean, what would be the point? Would you get a Ferrari and save gas by putting it in neutral and pushing it away from each stoplight? What appealed to me about the turbo 4 was the idea that I could have a well of power when I needed it, but could get good gas mileage the majority of the time. Many of the newer V6's in Hondas are more efficient than my 4-cylinder.
I feel like a fool for ditching my crappy Nissan economy car--which got low 20's even with a broken O2 sensor--for a much less efficient vehicle that runs best on premium fuel. I love everything else about my Saab, except for the economy factor.
