I used 37 to 39 psi on 93H rated tires (Ovation by National) on 16 inch aluminum rims, 5 large spoke style. These tires have a maximum of 35 psi, so that was not really a great idea. I checked with my local reliable tire supplier about getting some tires with a higher load rating, but it didn`t make a lot of sense - I was thinking about the sidewall stiffness factor.
It is the squidging (great word, describes it exactly!) of the tread element as the rubber hits the road, with a slight rotation at an angle, on the leading edge, that creates the symmetrical wear pattern around the inside.
Another dimension to the problem is that I had 4500 km plus on the tires since the previous rotation, and I should have rotated before the holiday run of 5000 km. I admit that some of this is my fault - and I know better.
Because my vehicle is older, and was bought second hand, I have no idea if the previous owner used the cargo area to move patio stones around. But during the holiday, the car was sitting slightly lower as time progressed. I probably ran with the full load about 8 days out of 18, because we unpacked the car a few times.
I don`t have the figures in front of me, but I did look at the GVRW numbers and I remember being about 150 below the maximum.
I will post any new findings on the TSN BB.
Cheers,
CrNiFe
