How to tell if the Engine has been replaced? Posted by Keith [Email] (#1462) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Keith) on Tue, 6 Dec 2005 13:21:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
After bringing my recently purchased 1999 Saab 95 Wagon 4 cyl. to a Saab Dealership they told me they believed my engine had been replaced because they found a cap, which is typically used to plug the holes in a rebuilt engine during shipping, inside a hose. They said they couldn't say for certain if the engine is original, or has been replaced since the VIN numbers to most modern cars don't match up since the engine is usually built in a separate factory. I find it hard to believe there is no certain way to tell whether an engine is factory original or not, especially for a Certified Saab Technician. Do you know if there is any way to tell?
