I have had the 200 HP upgrade since May. I think I was one of the first in the US to get it. Over all the performance of the car is vastly improved. I have a five speed, and acceleration in all gears is much better and particularly so in 1st and 2nd. Also the car can stay in a given gear over a broader RPM band, so it is easier to drive in city traffic.
I usually get a V6 auto as a loaner from my dealer. Before I got the ECU upgrade I used to think the V6 had better acceleration, but now the V6 feels quite a bit more sluggish, and the kickdown and slow response is quite different from the 5 spd.
As for gas mileage, I have noticed no significant difference if I do not push the car to hard in terms of acceleration. Driving at constant speed there is no change at all. I have a 20 mile suburban commute with a 30 MPH average speed. My gas mileage is typically about 25 MPG. On the highway I get over 30 MPG easily.
Bottom line: the upgrade is well worth the $$ with no downside as far as I can tell.
