I thought the UK Motoring issue mentioned a couple interesting items.
I haven't hear much good about the Saab diesels until this article. When I was a kid we had a Chevy Chevette with an Izuzu 4-banger diesel. You couldn't kill this engine and it would start right-up in cold weather too. We also had a marine engine with the same Izuzu block (Westerbeke brand) with similarly pleasing results. Overall this GM sponsored collaboration may be a good thing. Depending on how the current Middle East situation develops diesel become viable again in the US.
How much help from GM did Saab have in developing the 5-speed auto? Generally GM recently has had a very good reputation for their autos. Perhaps another GM/Saab benefit.
Finally, the bit about Elk/reindeer avoidance is priceless, but make sense. I hope not to have to try the TCS avoiding White-Tailed deer in CT. They may be smaller but they still carry quite an impact.
Skal!
