Patch for viewing WIS diagrams in Windows XP

Click on the link below. It will take you to the GIS (Geographic Information System) for Polk County, Iowa. The WIS, at least the early versions, stored all diagrams in .cgm format which didn't work with Windows XP after Service Pack 1 was installed. Other businesses and organizations had the same problem which is why Polk County offers the patch on their web site so people can view property boundary diagrams.

The link on the bottom of the page "trouble shooting steps" is helpful. You may want to print out these steps before loading the patch. It is described as an Alpha Copy but I have not had any system trouble after loading it over 3 years ago.

I would think that later versions of the WIS and later Service Packs from MicroSoft would have eliminated the need for this, but maybe not.
