Looks like the real issue relates to the system software that monitors the IDM circuit. Older versions apparently in the 2000-02 will not give you a CEL warning prior to a hard failure. This is what Saab, GM, and NHTSA are all probly worried about is covering their asses if you don't get a warning light prior to a breakdown!
The part number(9197559) apparently is the same one used between 99 and present day and the newer one(55559955) may be no different on the inside. They will probably only replace the IDM if there are errors immediately "after" they upgrade the system software to the current rev that was introduced in 03. We need feedback from techs who get the recall bulletins soon to verify.
I got a free software upgrade on my 03 Aero during a 90k service and then my CEL cam on ~96k. This sent me to the dealer who diagnosed a failing IDM at 100k. They replaced it with (9197559)at my cost of $350.....go figure! Saab no help on this one.
