I have a 2001 LPT wagon, currently with about 64k miles. It had a DIC failure in high speed traffic at 21k miles, throttle body failures at about 17k and 42k (yes, replaced twice under warranty), turbo failure at 40k, oil leaks requiring PCV update and head bolt retorque, turbo bypass valve failure, air conditioner expansion valve failure, light bulb failures too numerous to mention. All of these have been reported here by others frequently. Mine had all factory service plus 5k oil changes with Mobil 1. I like the ride and utility, it has run pretty well the last 24k miles, and I am hoping the "bugs" are out and I can drive it another 4-5 years, but we'll see. It has plenty of power for me, but I suspect it is significantly slower than the Aero. You will win no drag races with it, but plenty of power for reasonable driving once you are over 30mph or so (I have the stick, so I can downshift to pass or merge, but usually don't need to). I would not call it a "performance" car, but I have no need for one.
