Correct, you fill the transmission through the dipstick tube which will require a small funnel to fit the tube. Get the transmission hot and then remove the drain plug using a 15/16" / 24MM box wrench. You will notice a large flat hex plug screwed into the side of the transmission. The head of the plug faces the passenger side. Remove the drain plug and don't get burned on hot oil or the exhaust system. Then walk away and let it drain out. Do NOT start the vehicle. The torque converter holds most of the oil but runnning the tranmission dry could damage the pump or internals. After it sits a while, put the plug and washer back in, add just short of 4 quarts (3.75 quarts to start with) and start it up. Cycle through the gears and then take a drive. Check the fluid when hot on a level surface. I believe the manual says to put it in drive, then reverse, then park to check it. I bought Toyota Type IV fluid which is about $4.65 a quart here in PDX. Ask for a discount and they just might do it. They did for me. I plan to change the transmission oil at least 2 more times, maybe again this weekend. The first change gets about 45% new oil to old. Not sure how many changes would get around 90% new - not a Math major. The Aisin transmission is supposed to be very durable. I guess that's why Toyota, Saab, Lexus, and Volvo also use them. Some Saturn's does too I believe.
