Ideas......Re: 9.5 Headlights keep going out Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Thu, 13 Apr 2006 18:13:56 In Reply to: 9.5 Headlights keep going out, John, Thu, 13 Apr 2006 14:37:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Here are a few thoughts that come to mind based upon the limited information you've provided.
1) Use name-brand bulbs of the correct type (H7) by Sylvania, OSHRAM, or Philips. Off-brand (cheaper) bulbs are usually cheaper because they are cheaper.
2) Make sure you don't key oil from your finger tips on the bulb envelop when handling them.
3) The orange relay commonly causes bulbs to fail to light, not burn out. The constant cycling of a bulb off and on can shorten its life however.
4) You could check the voltage at the headlights when the car is idling after a drive of 10 miles. By then, the charging voltage should be 13.0-13.5 at the battery. A voltage in the high 14's or higher may indicate excessive charging voltage.
