In my opinion..... Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Thu, 20 Apr 2006 20:45:43 In Reply to: Upgrade or newer 9-5? Please advise!, Aussie, Thu, 20 Apr 2006 17:09:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You have 3 choices...
1) Stick with the car you have and continue to maintain it well
2) Upgrade your current car at a cost of AUD$7000 (US$5173)
3) Purchase a 2002 or later Aero
My thoughts....
CHOICE 1: This could be by far the most frugul choice...especially if you view it as a long-term strategy. Your car has only 167000kms (barely 100000 miles). With good maintenance you could go another 167000kms.
CHOICE 2: Less expensive than a 2002 or later Aero. However, this approach will do little to reduce long-term maintenance costs. And, an increase in value is doubtful
CHOICE 3: The most expensive coice. However, it comes with all of the upgrades AND it's 5 or more years newer. AND, the value is better aligned with the market value of the car.
Personally, at 260000 miles (433000kms) I'm sticking with choice 1. If I was going to make a change I would either buy a 2003 or 2004 Aero with 30000 miles with another 20000 miles of Saab warranty...OR...I would buy a new 2005 or 2006.
