I don't know about that.
My 9-5's tach stays constant while cruise is on, and only the turbo boost gauge moves up and down. But I know that does not mean that my fuel economy is consistent--it of course changes with the hills. so you can give it a little more gas on the downhill and still keep the same mpg, or slow up a bit on the uphill.
btw, on long trips, when keeping it pegged at 60, my mpg has been dramatically better than when at the normal 75. I'm talking 34 mpg average including stretches of road with stoplights, as oppposed to 27-28. of course I still will claim out loud that my 2-ton car gets 34 mpg, even though I don't normally drive it that way.
I also think our 00 lpt gets slightly better mileage than our (new to us) 02 linear wagon. not sure if there's additional weight, and haven't driven the wagon at or under speed limit yet on a long trip tho.
