Pull the VC and retorque the head bolts, but do not stop there.
Yank the oil pan and change to a larger mesh screen. I had one apart this week that had literally NO sludge, but the pickup screen was 75% full of carbon particles. It is not a big deal to make this simple modification, and it may just save you Thousands. Think of it as buying a put on your Enron stock before it became worthless.
