1. Dead pixels have nothing to do with bulbs - There are 6 light bulbs behind the LCD screen which has the pixels in it; 4 behind the screen and 2 behind the buttons on the battom actually. If 1/4 of your screen is just dimmer than the rest you need new bulbs.
2. If you take your SID out and put your same SID back in you don't need to reprogram it - this is only when you buy a brand new one. I have taken mine out a couple times and it still works. Also, car will run without SID.
3. Te foam strip fix - There is a ribbon of cabe that connects the LCD screen to the main board. Some of these contacts come loose and this is what leads to dead pixels. The foam strip is placed on it to put pressure on the contacts.
4. You can also try taking the SID apart and using a ballpoint pen poke the contacts in, but this rarely works. I have heard people have had great success with the iron technique though. Go over the strip with a clothes iron set on cotton a few times slowly.
