Throttle body? Engine dies (long)

I had problems with my 02 Aero surging (slight loss of power like tapping the brakes) while lightly accelerating or going up a hill. This happened sporadically at around 35-40 mph and 65-72 mph and seemed to depend upon the car temp, fuel tank level, etc. It also idled roughly on occassion. I changed fuel grade/stations many times and it still happened. From the board, I determined it was probably the throttle body. SAAB service couldn't find anything nor did they experience any abnormalities on a test drive.
I was on a 150 mile trip on Saturday, driving on the freeway and the CEL came on and power was reduced. I kept driving since there was no other indication that something was wrong, but when I slowed down for a toll, the engine died and I couldn't restart until I stopped and put in park, so was almost rear-ended (a few times until I figured out to keep my foot on the gas). The car still dies every time I let off the gas, so I must keep both feet on the brake and gas when slowing/stopping. On a positive note, the surging has not happened since then. No other issues -fluids are fine.
I called SAAB service but they don't have an opening this week. I continue to drive it carefully. Any thoughts?
Thanks kindly!
