I've been experiencing a similar problem with my steering wheel on my 100K mile 9-5. I always thought leather would just smooth out with prolonged use (heck, I've had the same wallet for 10 years and it hasn't disintegrated), but my steering wheel is exfoliating. It's like peeling skin after a bad sunburn. Not only does it look bad, it feels bad when I'm holding the wheel, and little bits of leather come off on my palms. Might have to buy a steering wheel cover--classy!
