Thanks for sharing your knowledge on HG and bolts I do drive one of the affected 2001 4 cylinders 2.3lpt which appears not to have any leaks at this time.
Where is the evidence that prophylactically changing the headbolts will prevent problems in the future when it appears the gaskets in the affected VIN# cars are also defective? Isn't there a risk of disturbing the seal by changing the bolts when there is no evidence of an oil leak and subsequently causing a problem? Couldn't one argue that if you are going do something at all then one should change not only the bolts to the newer version but also the gaskets to the newer version as well (why only go halfway unless there is proof that going halfway actually does some good)? (Unless there are certain other issues that I'm not aware of) How much would it cost to change both the bolts and the gasket? Would it not be just the parts plus labor which I imagine would be a few hundred dollars. I don't understand some of the figures which run into the thousands of dollars?
Thanks for your reply in advance
