I get coupons from local service depts. all the time for previous cars, offering "free multipoint inspection" which, as you point out, is a great way for the shop to get a car up on the lift and look for problems. Most folks prolly need at least brakes and shocks, and perhaps a new cat.

Which is not necessarily bad, unless you take it to the extremes of some local quickie lube outlets which had to settle a lawsuit that they ALWAYS found something wrong, because that's how they made the rent. They would always march over with a dirty air filter, or a dipstick dripping fluid. I have to admit, I used Jiffy Lube on my VW for a few years until that upselling became just too much to take.
