First of all, unless Saab is willing to foot the bill as a courtesy, the tire manufacturer's warranty and service requirements always take priority over the vehicle manufacturer. If you look at the tire warranty booklet that came with the car, you will see that Michelin defers to the vehicle manufacturer's service interval for tire rotation. (My Aero Wagon manual does not specify an interval in the Owner's Manual, though the Service Record mentions rotation at the 10K services.)
But Michekin recommends the 6000 to 8000 mile interval in their own booklet and they put the responsibility squarely on the owner by requiring that he inspect them _monthly_ and rotate them immediately at signs of uneven wear.
Did you in fact look at them and check the pressures periodically between scheduled services? You mentioned that they look shot - what exactly is the wear pattern? If alignment might be a factor, then you may be able to lean on Saab a little.
But I seriously doubt that you can get any financial compensation for those worn tires.
