I use a PC-based scanner that plugs into a PDA or laptop. The one I bought is called "obd2 all in one", and cost about $100. You can google it if interested. It is based on the Elm 327 chip, which supports all the different vehicle interfaces including the CAN interface used on newer Saabs. There is are multiple software choices for the Elm-based readers, some are free and some are paid. PCMSCAN looks like the best paid software right now. If you are willing to spend the money for paid software, you might check out Auterra, Auto Enginuity, and AutoTap. Those three are integrated hardware/software solutions which appear to have pretty nice software.
