Luckily, no fuel pump issues yet on my 1999 9-5, but I did have to replace one on my previous 1985 900 Turbo. The same fastening ring problem exists for both. As such, not being successful at getting the aged plastic ring unscrewed with pliers (breaking off a few of the ring ribs at first..), I made a makeshift tool that worked better. Although far from perfect, I cut 3/4" deep slots in one end of a 4" section of a piece of PVC pipe (6" diameter I believe..) that mostly matched the equidistant rib pattern around the inside edge of the ring. A tablesaw and jig would have made the cuts more precise and even, but I got them close enough. I drilled a hole near the opposite end of the pipe from one side through to the other, large enough to get the blade of a large screwdriver through for a handle to complete my wrench.
Just a suggestion...Best of Luck!! Now I'd better think about getting that fuel pipe metal clamp for my 9-5....
