Still uncertain if I made the right decision... I am expecting a bill approaching $1K for this repair. Tow of 15-20 miles to Dealer, $500+ for the pump assembly, a couple hours of labor at $100 or more per hour, taxes, miscellaneous shop fees, other things I may not really need (filter was replaced at 180,000 miles), etc.
Versus having it towed only two miles to my home, buying a pump only from NAPA at ~$150, replacing the assumed fail pump in the pump assembly myself on the street in front of my home, and driving away for around $250 cost.
But I don't know for certain if that is the problem, I may not be successful at the D-I-Y repair, I may break other things (like the fragile fule line end connectors) in the process, and then need a second tow to the Dealership Service Dept.
Anders posted a while back that he has a method of seeing impending fuel pump death by doing a wave form analysis of the noise signal generated by the running pump on an oscilloscope. But dang, I don't own one of those either!
Glad to hear your cost was lower than what I was fearing.
