Replacing pads alone is pretty easy and does not require special tools. If your braking action is still smooth, you should not have to cut the rotors. If they are already warped, and in need of attention, let your dealer or a qualified shop do it. Rotors that are cut are more prone to additonal warping than are new rotors, since the thermal mass is reduced on a cut rotor, and this mass is what helps dissapate the heat that contributes to the warping.Unless you have a good dial gauge for measuring runout, let the experts handle this. Finally, if you do it yourself, make sure that you tighten your wheels on the car with a torque wrench, and the torque setting should be 75-80 lb.ft. Improperly torqued wheels contribute to rotor warping as much as a heavy foot on the brakes.
