I have a '99 V6 with 184k which has been an excellent vehicle and has been maintained meticulously. I just removed the TB, cleaned it, along with the hoses that run from the TB down to the radiator, and on the way noticed a little bit of oil. I have seen that before. I disconnected the neg terminal of the battery before any cleaning/removal. Battery is new.
After driving about 20 miles, the t-stat guage, dropped to cold, as if the guage just quit. I pulled over, checked under the hood, and nothing out of the ordinary. I restarted the car, guage worked, went another 5 miles, and the guage dropped again, the car started to sputter, and it died. No CEL came on, no coolant odor, no gas odor, no nothing. So I checked all the connections under the hood, checked all the fuses, tried to crank it about 5-7 more times, it kept turning over, but no juice.
I heard the fuel pump prime each time, so I ruled that out. However started to smell petrol slightly.
Does this sound like something to do with the TB removal and cleaning?
Again, no CEL came on, only when I initially turned the ignition, and while the engine was turning over, it went off as it normally does.
I was transferred to Puerto Rico from the D.C. area and there is only one dealership here who charges twice as much as a U.S. dealer for service. I'm a real DIYer, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for long post...
