From Eeuroparts web site:
Part Code: 5532544
Part Name: Front Brake Pad Set
Part Brand: Genuine Saab
Part Cost: $113.90
Part Core Charge: $0.00
Part Description:
Front Brake pad set for any 9-3 mid 99 ( from VIN # X2020001 3dr/5dr, X7020001 conv) -02(and 03 convertible), Viggen all, mid 9-5 mid '99(from X3020001 on)-07 all. This is the correct pad set for all stated applications regardless of engine, wheel size, etc."
So the same size pad fits every 9-5, at least since mid 1999 model year. Whether there are subtle differences in specs that make some pads technically not suitable for later years but OK for earlier years I don't know, but certainly any pad for later year cars is backward compatible.
As for where to purchase Akebono pads - Site sponsor Talifereo at genuinesaab web site hs 'em in a Saab box for 81.60. Tire rack for $78 in an aftermarket box - whether there's a slight difference in the pad I don't know - I'd doubt it, but who knows? A local auto parts store might carry them or carry a competing ceramic pad. I put Autozone's house brand ceramic pads on Mrs. G's Oldsmobile and they seem fine.
Good luck.
