I've had no problems with keeping my vented seats clean.
I have a 2005 Arc wagon with the (non-sport) vented seats. I often eat in the car. If I look closely, there is a sesame seed or two in a couple of the vent holes, but they're no big deal -- and probably easy to pop out with a toothpick if I tried.
I really like the vented seats-- they really make the car more comfortable. My only complaint is that internal fans are a bit too noisy.
