I did it and don't recommend it. The computer will still trip LHM, but the TB won't compensate unless the mechanical LHM is set. It just leaves you stalled on the highway and unable to drive at all.
When the mechanical limp home mode is set it actually locks the throttle plate with a small opening. A warm engine can idle fine with no accessories like AC on. Without it, the plate is completely closed.
