Low Mileage 2003 9-5 May Need Rear Main Seal

My wife and I just purchased a 2003 Saab 9-5 Wagon. It only had 9245 miles when we drove it off the lot. We just had our trusted mechanic look at it (within the 5-day money-back guarantee period) and he said it all looks very good except that he noticed some oil near the rear main seal and he suggested that it may need to be replaced, though not right away. We are going to keep the car despite this because we really like it! Should we be very concerned with this? Does anyone think it may be a result of the car having been driven so few miles over the last 4 years? And if so, do we need to be worried about anything else that may be affected by this? This is our first Saab, and actually our first car in this class - our previous cars have been Mazdas and we were pretty happy with them. Oh, he also pointed out that both rear tires have been replaced and thought that was curious with less than 10K miles on the car. I thought maybe the previous owner accidentally backed up over one of those "severe tire damage" gates. Any thoughts on this too? Thanks in advance for any input.
