WARNING! Follow-Up to Amp Boost Posting for HK Radios:

Folks,
Last week, I posted info on how to increase the amp boost on our HK radios- there was a pretty active thread going on about the topic. Jim posted that he discovered his head unit became extremely hot after a while. I had not taken an extended trip in my 9-5 until yesterday, and I noticed the same phenomenon. Obviously, increasing the boost too much is somehow bad for the radio (or at least it makes it much hotter than normal).
From what I understand, the factory setting is 9. Mine was at 14 (I bought the car with 7,000 miles on it), and I boosted it to 25 (well under the max). After noticing yesterday that the radio was hot, I dropped the boost back to 14. The sound is still fantastic. I recommend being very careful about this- I don't want anyone to fry their radios. I will ask my dealer the next time I go in for service what is the safest level.
