It's your turbo. I have the same exact car ('01 SE V6) with 172k miles on it. I dropped mine off this morning to have the turbo rebuilt. Mine was puffing blue smoke since I got it a little over a year ago. I knew it was the turbo but chose to ignore it when I found out how much it costs to replace. I kept an eye on my oil level and was consuming about a quart every thousand miles. Then in august I was merging onto the highway and looked back and couldn't see the car behind me. Every time I accelerated anything harder than normal I got a huge cloud of smoke behind me. Consumption went to a quart every 600 miles and I called my mechanic. To put a new Saab turbo on the V6 is $2500 with labor. I am choosing to rebuild mine for $1500. The turbo on the V6 is built into the front exhaust manifold, so you can't put another turbo on. Even if you had 5k miles on your V6 it wouldn't be a good idea to increase the boost. The V6 is a GM engine and really isn't meant to be turbocharged. Saab improved some of the internals a bit but it really can't take much more than it's got already. While turbos do consume some oil, it should not be easily noticeable, and your dealer should know that. I think he knew you were close to 100k and wanted to get rid of you. See if you can get anything out of them while you're still close. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask me if anything's unclear. I've been researching V6 turbos since mine started so I know lots, haha.
