I'm not too sure it will be the real problem but it might.
It is certainly cheaper to replace the speed sensors instead of the transmission but if the same fault codes comes back with new sensors installed, then you will probably need a new transmission.
You will probably have to pay diagnostic fee at the dealer anyway so one good thing having them do the job is to make them agree to not charge you for the parts and install the old sensors if it turns out that the transmission is at fault.
If you buy and install the sensors yourself, you are out the money for the parts.
