Actually the GM rate is still 4.9% but the dealer can get you 3.9% by buying 1%, in which case he will probably not give you much more than a 1500$ rebate. If you take the 4.9% rate, no problem getting 2 500$ rebate, but the bottom line will be about the same. GM has extended these rates till mid-January. My dealer thinks they will then improve. It is not a good time to shop for a 02 automatic Aero in Canada, as there is still a lot of 01s left over. GM offers a 5 000$ rebate on those and the dealer can go another 5 000$ if his inventory is really hurting him, but then he makes no money on the deal, which is not great for a dealer(and do we need dealers!). Most likely he will add a rebate of 2 to 3K$ to the GM 5K$ rebate.
