Tire pressures play a role as well. Higher pressures are better for deeper snow and slush, especially when it comes to tracking, while lower pressures are supposedly better for ice. Take your pick.
I had my oil changed and they lowered my tire pressures on me. I didn't realize it until snowed the next day. I could certainly tell that something wasn't right, pulled into a gas station, and found my tire pressures had been lowered. I cranked the snow tire pressures back up to 38front 36rear which really helped the snow tracking.
Perhaps Seth is complaining about ground clearance and the large nasty bumps on those dirt roads instead of snow traction. Seth?
