BACKGROUND: Years ago tires used to develop a set; as a result they would not perform or wear well if you crossed them. I have been told several times by tire people that you can cross modern day radial tires if they are unidirectional.
OPINON:
1) Don't cross unidirectional tires; even if this is no longer necesary to not do, you can't lose by not crossing unidirectional tires.
2) Rotate front to rear every 5K miles, at least. Failure to rotate can result in cupping of the rear tires, necessitating premature replacement...which totally eclipses what you thought you saved by not rotating.
