Tranny Fluid Leak?

'03 Aero. I noticed a puddle in my parking spot a couple days ago, but haven't been able to reproduce the leak and get a conclusive ID on the source. Seems more watery than oily, with reddish hue - I suspect coolant or AT fluid.
Cold, engine off, all coolant levels are normal. If I turn the car on and check the AT level, it barely registers on the dipstick. I know the proper procedure is to run the car on the open road for 30min, then 15sec in drive, 15sec in reverse, check level on dipstick. But if I in fact have a tranny fluid leak, I'm not excited about trying the 30min drive.
Anyone know where the fluid level should read while cold?
